A Proliferation of Unethical SEO Content

SEO content (search engine optimization) has lately been used as an effective means for gaining exposure to a website. Many online companies are strategizing, by creating SEO content, so that when a user searches using various keywords, the website will hopefully show up at the top of the entries, but it is not necessarily ethical SEO content. Therefore, a proliferation of predicted popular keywords are being placed throughout web literature in hopes that, if the keywords appear enough times in the article, their website will be found before all of the others. The question many begin to ask is, can any business create these articles that can improve search-engine rankings? The short answer to this is yes. For people to discover a particular website, a string of words needs to match those placed into the search engine by the interested party. But a search engine looks at two issues: where the keyword phrases are and the number of times that they appear. The search engine assumes that the keywords link to a relevant page. The problem, with a lot of SEO content that is not ethical SEO content, is that it is bogus; it can be used as a form of deceit and trickery because the company can offer nothing, yet if it can attract millions to the webpage. So many SEO companies are trying to find content that is of value in some way to the person perusing the site. As a result of writing ethical SEO, rankings go up, valid, worthwhile information is out there—and everybody wins.

The problem with writing cunning SEO content is that it weakens and dilutes the level of results based on searches. No company will be taken seriously when the interested party discovers that there is nothing being offered, only a deceptive means to get the individual to land on the webpage. The business runs the risk of losing their reputation, while at the same time lessening the reputability of many other online businesses. Because of this proliferation of bogus content, search engines are trying to block out this spam by using a number of methods, but what about those with something valid to offer? Ethical SEO content can be used to promote business and satisfy the customer at the same time. SEO content has a valid place, and provided that it is ethical SEO content, then consumers frequenting the online business will not be cheated. SEO content that creates spam rises and crashes in a hurry, whereas an ethical SEO approach shows a steady decline that keeps rising. So, for those companies that create a myriad of stringed words in hopes of getting rich quick are only cheating themselves. Ethical SEO content provides quality for its visitors, and website owners actually can feel good because they are providing valuable information—not a skeleton, or a ghost of a product.

Web Traffic Software Reviews

I was in the market for some up to date web traffic software and I first drew up a list of the particular items of software that I thought may be able to achieve the objectives I had in mind. Some of the items were just not suitable but once I had developed my shortlist I set out to read some reviews of the items from the list and gather as much information as I could before deciding which web traffic software I would add to my Internet marketing toolbox.

The main idea of searching for the software reviews was that I was hoping to get a completely un-biased and independent opinion of the features (or lack of features) of each of the software programs on my list. I was disappointed to find that many of these reviews are written by affiliate marketers who lean heavily towards the web traffic software they are promoting. This is probably quite understandable but obviously defeats the object of my exercise and was of no help to me at all.

I think I was hoping to see reviews which made various comparisons of the different web traffic software available, going through every feature and commenting on the pros and cons of each item. I thought about where to find the information I needed and who could offer me the most un-biased information. This was a harder task than I had assumed and I searched through some Internet marketing forums to see if any of the web traffic software on my list had been recently discussed. I was able to find a few comments but nothing to satisfy my curiosity.

I decided to contact the developers of each of the items of software on my list with a questionnaire highlighting the particular features that interested me, and was disappointed once again to note that only one of them answered my email within 48 hours. When you are hot to buy, 48 hours is a long time to wait. Also it makes you wonder how long they will take to answer you if you have a problem after you have purchased your software and need after sales help. I was beginning to lose my interest in even investing in web traffic software as I was not keen to spend cash on more tools that do not achieve.. I have been burned too many times in the past.

Then out of the blue, and quite by accident I found a web traffic software review that was written more in letter form than as a review.. Almost like a story board and yet it had me convinced that the particular software the writer was discussing was exactly what I needed. There was no information about any of the features of the product and the review simply described the writers own experiences in purchasing and using this particular item of web traffic software, and the results he was able to achieve in doing so.

Needless to say I ended up purchasing the web traffic software in question, and experienced even more success with it than the writer of the review had described. It is refreshing to read of other marketers experiences using software or even different methods of marketing than to read about features and facilities which may work for some but not necessarily for others. The success I had with this project, and the web traffic software in particular, has led me to change the way I search for information about marketing products and has introduced me into writing more about my own experiences, not just with web traffic software, but with a variety of Internet marketing issues.

Other peoples experiences can be deemed more relevant than their opinions and apart from making more interesting reading, may provide a deeper insight into the subject in question. I am totally happy with the software I purchased and more than happy to pass on my own experiences to others.

SEO MISTAKES TO AVOID

What is SEO? SEO is Search Engine Optimization. Google, Yahoo and Bing [formerly MSN] crawl through content of your article, blog, website, etc., and look for valuable and relevant content. SEO is what gets you in the top 10 positions on the left side of the page when it is opened up. It is referred to as generic listings. On the right side of the page you will see little boxes or ads, and those are what is considered PPC [Pay Per Click]. Every time you click on those, the advertiser pays Google, Yahoo or Bing (depending what search engine you are using).

The crawlers that are looking for good content go from left to right, so it is important that your title and article have keywords that these crawlers can pick up and are relevant to your article/blog/site.

There are basically 5 mistakes that most people make when they are trying to optimize for SEO content.

Mistake #1: Keyword Stuffing. This is the overuse of keywords that identify the content of your website, blog, article, etc. If you “stuff” too many keywords into your title and/or your headline, and/or article, the crawlers will reject it. “Stuffing” is just as bad as not having any keywords. Either way will not get your article ranked. The bottom line — too many keywords in your title will not give you the results that you want.

Mistake #2: Missing Keywords. Totally leaving out keywords, or not having relevant keywords will not get you ranked either. The first two words of the Title need to have or be part of the keywords — Google reads from left to right when searching for content. Why is ranking so important? If you don’t get ranked, your website, blog, article will not get found. If you can’t be found, all your work and time and effort you put into it will be in vain. All your content is out there somewhere , floating in cyber space!! You can search the relevancy of the keywords that you want to use by going to Free Keyword Suggestion Tool from Wordtracker, or by using Google Keyword Tool, both of which are free. Remember, without the proper keywords on your title/headline, the chances of you getting ranked high enough for people to find your website is slim to none.

Mistake #3: Missing Description. By always using descriptions on your blog posts allows for better rankings and click through. Be brief, but descriptive. Remember — people scan quickly! If they can’t find what they are looking for, in 2 seconds they are gone! Whether it is in your title or in the content, descriptions are key on having people find what they are looking for. For example, if your website is for a restaurant, you want pictures, a menu and maybe even some recipes for favorite dishes. CAPITALIZATION isn’t not good for descriptions, especially in titles. Your description needs to be relevant.

Mistake #4: Simple Anchor Texts. You can have the best written article in the world, and if you don’t have anchor texts that backlink to your website, then the article is not doing what you want it to do — have people come to your site and buy whatever it is you are selling. This is probably the most common overlooked mistake. For example, if you are having people go to your landing page, and you simply have a click through or backlink that says “Click Here”, it really isn’t compelling. However, if it says something like “I Want Paul’s Growing Formula To Success”, it is more compelling and appealing for people to click through. Also, always make sure that you add backlinks to others websites or your websites.

Mistake #5: Title Tags. The title of your page or post that you want to rank is the single most important factor when it comes to on-page optimization. Take some time and put some thought into your title and keywords. For example, the title of this post is SEO Mistakes to Avoid. The first two words rank high in keywords that are being searched, in fact the whole title ranks high.

So now you know! When first starting out, keep your title and keywords simple, and check them to see how competitive they are. As time goes on, and you get more skilled, go for those competitive keywords.
